Quad Graphics, Inc., Pewaukee, WI has installed the first Universal Electric Corporation-Starline 400 Amp Busway System sold in Wisconsin.
The application required a flexible power system to incorporate auxiliary equipment into a process that had fixed machinery. The fixed pieces of equipment are hardwired.
The auxiliary equipment could be placed at any point between the fixed pieces. The power requirements of these auxiliary pieces could range from 20 amps to 80 amps. This required a system that would allow circuit breakered "drops" to these pieces of equipment at the various amperages.
The Starline Continuous Busway System allows Quad Graphics, Inc. electricians to choose the correct amperage "drop" and simple plug into the busway. When that piece of equipment is no longer required, or required elsewhere along the line, the circuit breaker "drop" can be removed from the busway, moved to another location and plugged in.
The installation came as a result of interest in Starline Busway Systems by Adam Lesak, Project Manager, Quad Graphics, Inc. His inquiry initially began at the Universal Electric/Starline Busway website at www.uecorp.com.
Darrell Urbanic, Regional Sales Manager for Universal Electric/Starline, qualified Adam's requirements and determined the new 400 Amp Busway (released for sale in May, 2006) would provide Adam with a great solution. Following standard sales practice, the information was forwarded by email to the Wisconsin Representative, Dan Weitzer, Weitzer Sales Ltd.
Following an initial meeting, phone calls and several sight visits, a quote was generated and the order was placed in August, 2006.
The product was shipped, installation was completed in October and the busway is set to go "on-line" in November.
Photos of the installation show the application at the global printing company's Pewaukee, WI facility. Utilizing a top feed, Quad Graphics installers were able to reduce the distance between the main electrical panel and the busway.
Quad Graphics, Inc. also incorporated the Grace Engineered Products, Inc. Voltage Vision R-3W in the top feed unit. This device provides a continuous phase to phase and phase to ground monitoring for pre-verification of 3 phase voltage on the bus.
